Color: dark brown
Head: dense tan
Nose: malty but a hint of hops
Body: full-bodied, low carbonation
Palate: a big malty flavor, some chocolate
Finish: clean, dry
Served: on tap at the brewery
Impression: Another case of high expectations not being quite met but that’s more my fault in this case than perhaps the beer’s. Expecting a more typical dry fruity brew, this is more a true Dunkles more common in Munich. In this case, it was a very nice example of the style, with a rich malty flavor nicely mixed with a bit of chocolate. The finish was surprisingly dry and made one want to linger to drink more.
